Greetings from CEO

Mingala-ba! (“Greetings!” in Myanmar)

This is Irene Kim.

I give my heartfelt love and gratitude in Jesus Christ’s name to all of you who have shown your overwhelming support for GWI.
The 2010 elections in Myanmar was the starting point of the country’s movement toward liberalization. Currently, the regime seems to be in an ambiguous state where liberalization is being tolerated under the pressure of the military, and it’s unknown if the movement toward liberalization will be sustained or halted.
However, it is a fact that the Buddhist country of Myanmar has opened its doors to the world and has informally proclaimed its freedom of religion in the political arena. But we can’t be rest assured of the proclamation since the country still does not issue missionary visas.

It would be ideal if freedom of religion and missions occurred together on the same level, but in reality, no physical changes are seen or felt on the mission fields. However, many short-term outreach teams are reviewing how to safely take mission trips to Myanmar and are awaiting true freedom of religion. There are more churches that have prospective to do missions in Myanmar.
It is a good thing to see Myanmar becoming more well-known than before. This may be due to the natural resources in Myanmar and the title of “the last developmental area in Asia.” Compared to this increased fame, the mission fields still face hardships.
However, GWI plans to move forth within this developing region, using past knowledge and experiences that we gained during more difficult times when we started Myanmar missions. Till this day, there are many oppressed Christian ethnic groups, including unreached ethnic groups, in Myanmar. GWI wants to be the voice of those Myanmar Christians and give strength to them. We want to deliver the essence of the gospel and reveal the ability of the gospel that can transform their lives through the power of the Holy Spirit. Certainly, it is a country that has to deal with the problems that lie within the different races and languages.  But we vow to proclaim that Jesus Christ is love, which allows the power of the gospel to overcome people’s weaknesses and surroundings and lead them all to salvation.
There are many different ways to do missions; however, we will do our best so that GWI-USA Mission Center and GWI-MYN Research Center will always focus on the gospel within all of our ministries and become apostles of the gospel that spread the fragrance of Jesus Christ rather than limit ourselves to humanity work.
We ask for your continuous support and prayers for GWI’s march forward with the gospel.
